LifeMap Biomedical Knowledgebases

For the past 25 years, LifeMap Sciences and the GeneCards Team at the Weizmann Institute of Sciences has been developing tools that allow scientists to effectively navigate the universe of biological entities – genes, disorders, proteins, cells, biological pathways and more, and the connections between them.

Our biomedical knowledgebases integrate and unify biomedical information from more than 190 data sources, empowering more than 5 million users world-wide in academic research, healthcare, drug discovery, clinical diagnosis, patent research, machine learning and AI.

Our knowledgebase websites, GeneCards and MalaCards, are free to use for non-profit academic institutions and hospital clinicians. All other users require a license, which is used to fund the continued research and development in partnership with the Weizmann Institute of Sciences.

GeneCards®
The Human Gene Database

GeneCards, the human gene database, is a searchable, integrated database of human genes that provides comprehensive genomic related information on all known and predicted human genes.

GeneCards provides an integrated view of gene-related data, including genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, genetic, clinical, and functional information. The data is professionally mined and integrated from over 190 carefully selected biomedical data sources, allowing GeneCards to provide one-stop access to a broad information base about each gene.

GeneCards overcomes barriers of data format and heterogeneity by using standard nomenclature and approved gene symbols. It presents a rich annotation for each gene, and provides deep links to the original sources for further scrutiny.

Used by more than 5 million researchers world-wide, GeneCards assists in the understanding of gene-related aspects of biology and medicine, including basic research, drug development, clinical diagnosis and patent research.

MalaCards
The Human Disease Database

MalaCards, the human disease database, is an integrated database of all human diseases and their annotations, modeled on the architecture and richness of the popular GeneCards database of human genes.

MalaCards is organized into “disease cards” that integrate prioritized information and list numerous known aliases for each disease, along with a variety of annotations and inter-disease connections. Annotations include: symptoms, drugs, articles, genes, clinical trials, related diseases/disorders and more.

MalaCards integrates disease-related data from over 75 carefully selected biomedical sources including information gleaned from GeneCards to compile the disease database.

MalaCards integrates both specialized and general disease lists, including rare diseases, genetic diseases, complex disorders and more.
